Want to Address an “Invisible Strain” on your Business?

Improve your Retention and and Retention Approach!
By Todd J. Stukenberg

Most businesses only think of recruiting when there is a need: a new position is greenlighted, you get notice that an employee has resigned, demand unexpectedly explodes. Likewise, retention of high performing employees is thought of most often when a key player resigns, or the market becomes highly competitive, and a new risk of defection arises.

The reality is that effective recruiting and retention needs to be always top of mind, and part of the continuous focus and effort of the company every day, and at all levels. It needs to be active in the form of an effective, culture-based, recruiting and retention philosophy with a corresponding program. Why culture-based? Because often people are hired for their professional skills but are dismissed or leave because of a lack of cultural fit with the company, the supervisor, or the team.

Therefore, creating an approach that ensures cultural compatibility before hire (during the recruiting process) and maintains it during the employment period (via an active culture-based employee-oriented philosophy) will do the following:

  1. Ensure better hires and a better immediate success rate.
  2. Retain the best, highest-performing people.
  3. Reduce the hidden costs of turnover, or worse, hang on to low performance that negatively affects everyone.

So how does a company either make a transition to a culture-based recruiting and retention philosophy or bolster an already strong and impactful culture? The good news is there are tools and expertise that can help. Tools like DISC, and a Culture Survey along with the implementation of effective communication approaches surrounding the key elements of your culture (Vision/Mission/Values/Behaviors/Initiatives) exist, along with expertise to guide the implementation.

We can help. Want to learn more? It could just be the thing to eliminate waste and strain that are holding your business back and putting the future at risk.
